Orangatang Moronga Wheels 72.5mm Zoom

Orangatang Moronga Wheels 72.5mm

Orangatang are actively exploring new styles of freeriding, particularly longer slides and quicker, more seamless rotations with minimal speed loss. Their original freeride lineup focused on an offset bearing seat and a relatively wide contact patch, which translated to a balance of traction and ease of slide initiation for high speed downhill freeride applications. The Balut was their first real deviation from this design model and lent itself to more progressive and experimental freeride and freestyle riding. As they spent more and more time on the Balut, they found that some of their ambassadors (Dustin Hampton, Trevor Baird, Kyle Chin, Dane Webber, Patrick Switzer, and Camilo Cespedes in particular) were gravitating strongly to the Balut even for high speed downhill use. The medium height, narrow contact patch, lightweight core, and centerset bearing seat combined to create a wheel that carried lots of roll speed and demonstrated a surprising amount of static grip (delicately balanced with very liberal slide characteristics). It was by no means a race wheel, but it nevertheless provided an exhilarating downhill experience for the more adventurous of spirit. Inspired by this unexpected application, Orangatang set out to explore new ideas within this realm of design. After months of prototyping and R&D they ultimately arrived at a new wheel that significantly expanded the scope of the Balut, allowing it to transcend the bounds of freestyle and technical freeride and more confidently flirt with the outer regions of high velocity riding. We proudly introduce the Orangatang Moronga. Specs Diameter: 72.5 mm Contact patch: 35 mm Width: 44 mm Durometers: Orange-80a, Purple- 83a, Yellow- 86a Weight: 5.6 oz / 160 g (per wheel) Bearing seat: centerset Design The Moronga features a centerset bearing seat and a symmetrical shape to allow for complete flexibility in flipping and rotating your wheels to promote even wear. A narrow 35mm contact patch balances the wheel’s long sliding potential with a crisp and definitive hookup. Using the same large and lightweight core as the Balut, the Moronga has been designed with a radically different lip profile. As opposed to a soft, radiused cross section, the Moronga sports a thick, linear, and very slightly acute lip that blends down into the bearing seat after it reaches the outer diameter of the core. This guarantees a proportionally consistent lip shape throughout the life of the wheel that slides predictably and provides a reliable level of traction. Additionally, the stiff and beefy lips partner with the wide core to minimize deformation and ensure smooth, quiet slides and excellent wear characteristics. Encapsulating the entire core in urethane does add a bit of weight. The tradeoff, however, is a more firmly supported lip and increased vibration damping for a plusher ride and smoother, quieter drift. The Moronga is poured in our Euphorethane formula for long slides and the durability to keep up with hard and fast riding. Orange- 80a Purple- 83a Yellow- 86a
